Check provincial and Express Entry eligibility separately.
You need an Express Entry-aligned provincial stream and eligibility for at least one federal program: Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker or Federal Skilled Trades. A nomination does not replace federal eligibility.
- 01
For an initial assessment, bring your work history, language results, education, any required job offer and a realistic provincial settlement plan.
- 02
Identify the exact stream and its intake method; the province’s name alone does not identify your route.
Provincial interest is not a nomination.
Starting the process
You may approach a province first or receive a notification of interest through your Express Entry profile. Both routes still require a provincial application and assessment.
Accepting the nomination
Once the province confirms it electronically, you normally have 30 calendar days to accept in your account. Acceptance adds 600 CRS points; a federal invitation and approval remain separate steps.
Prepare the documented application after your federal invitation.
You have 60 days after the invitation to submit the online PR application. Reconcile your profile with your circumstances before filing; changes to eligibility or score may affect the invitation.
- 01
Build a clear evidence trail for work duties and dates, language, education and any required assessment, identity and family circumstances.
- 02
Use your account’s personalized checklist. Keep dates, translations and supporting records consistent, and monitor subsequent requests.
Manage changes and temporary status while you wait.
Track your existing permit expiry separately. A PR submission receipt does not itself authorize continued work. If the province withdraws the nomination, the required response depends on your application stage; review it before proceeding.
Compare routes and explore provinces
Your nomination type determines the federal route. Holding an Express Entry profile does not automatically convert a base nomination into an enhanced one.
