Program Delivery Updates
Public Consultations: Express Entry Economic Priorities 2026
Open: August 6 – September 3, 2025
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is inviting public feedback on which economic priorities should guide category-based selection in the 2026 Express Entry system.
What is category-based selection?
Introduced in 2023, this system allows IRCC to invite candidates with specific skills, work experience, or French-language ability to apply for permanent residence. Categories are chosen to target occupations and abilities that address long-term labour shortages and support Canada’s economic growth.
Current 2025 categories include:
-
Healthcare and social services
-
Trades
-
Education (added in 2025)
-
Agriculture and agri-food
-
Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)
-
French-language proficiency
Why it matters:
These categories shape not only Express Entry invitations but also influence Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility for certain international graduates.
Focus for 2026:
IRCC is considering:
-
Continuing to address labour shortages
-
Expanding Francophone immigration outside Quebec
-
Adding a new priority on leadership and innovation
How to participate:
Complete IRCC’s online survey (available until September 3, 2025) to share your perspectives. Organizations can coordinate and submit one collective response.
Background:
Express Entry manages applications for the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program. Candidates are ranked by the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), and invitations are issued through general, program-specific, or category-based rounds.
💡 Tip: This consultation is a chance for skilled workers, employers, and stakeholders to influence how Canada selects economic immigrants in the coming years.

Updated IRCC Form: IMM 5557 – Document Checklist for Temporary Resident Permit
Announced: August 2025
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has released a new version of IMM 5557 – Document Checklist for applicants inside Canada applying for a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP).
This checklist must be submitted with your application and outlines all required documents. Key reminders include:
-
Do not send original documents unless specifically instructed — originals will not be returned.
-
Any documents not in English or French must be translated, and both the photocopy and certified translation must be included.
-
Applicants for study or work permits in addition to a TRP must also provide the required forms, fees, and supporting documents for those permits.
